INSTRUCTION

LECTURES

The project commenced with an overview from our lecturer, Mr. Mike, who introduced us to the Expedio X-Board—a modular and flexible workspace solution designed to enhance productivity in various environments. We formed a team of six members, each bringing unique skills to the table. Our initial task was to understand the project scope and define our objectives.

PROPOSAL

Contextual Research:

Research was the backbone of our project. We began by analyzing Expedio’s brand ethos and the current market positioning of the X-Board. Our objective was to pinpoint the pain points of existing users and identify potential improvements.

To achieve this, we designed a detailed survey using Google Forms, targeting educators, small business owners, and corporate professionals. The questions were aimed at understanding their daily challenges, workspace preferences, and expectations from a modular board like the X-Board.

Questionnaire Survey:

With a clear understanding of our task, we moved on to the research phase. We needed to gather data to understand how different user groups interacted with the X-Board. To do this, we conducted surveys and interviews with educators, small business owners, and corporate employees.

One of the main challenges we faced during this phase was getting enough responses. It required persistent follow-ups and sometimes even adjusting our approach to accommodate the busy schedules of our respondents.

After collecting data, our next task was to analyze it. We looked for patterns and trends that could help us understand the needs and preferences of our target users. This analysis led to the creation of detailed user personas, which represented the key segments of our audience.

These personas became an essential tool in our design process. They helped us empathize with our users and guided our decisions to ensure that the final product met their needs.

While working on the functionality of the X-Board, we also focused on its visual identity. We wanted the branding to reflect the product's innovative and user-friendly nature. We experimented with different design styles and eventually settled on a modern, minimalist look.

Creating the visual elements, such as the logo and color palette, was both challenging and rewarding. We aimed for consistency and clarity to ensure that the brand resonated with our target audience.

My task is to edit the promotional videos.

These are the videos I edited.

As we approached the end of the project, we prepared for the final presentation. We compiled our research, design process, and final solutions into a comprehensive presentation. Rehearsing multiple times helped us deliver our message confidently and effectively.

Presenting our work was a proud moment. It was an opportunity to showcase our hard work and receive valuable feedback from our peers and instructors.

FEEDBACK

Week 1:

In the first week, we were given a briefing about the module booklet and details about the project. After reviewing the options, our team agreed on choosing Expedio Design as it seemed like the best fit for us. We did some research on the company and their products, and we are now preparing interview questions to make sure we understand the client's needs well. Next week, we will have a meeting with the client to learn more about their expectations and what they want to promote.

Week 2:

This week, we went through the module booklet and learned about our project. After discussing it, we decided to choose Expedio Design. We started by researching the company’s background and looking at their products. Our next task is to prepare questions for the upcoming client interview to ensure we fully understand their needs and goals. We will also review how Expedio’s products are used and what their key strengths and weaknesses are.

Week 3:

This week, we finished our interview with the client and began working on user personas to understand more about the people who would use the X-Board. We focused on three main groups: educators, corporate office workers, and small business owners, based on the feedback from our previous meeting. We’ll now start drafting survey and interview questions to get feedback on specific features of the X-Board, like how easy it is to move around or how well it fits in different spaces. Our goal is to make sure the X-Board really helps users with their work and adds to their experience.

Week 4:

After finalizing our survey and interview questions, we reviewed them with our lecturer, who gave us some helpful suggestions. We were reminded to focus on our main target group, which is the CEOs of large companies, as they have the ability to make bulk purchases. We’ve been advised to wait until we collect survey data before conducting interviews, so we can gain more accurate insights. Our next step is to finish gathering the data from the survey by next week, so we can move forward with the project.

Week 5:

This week, we’ve been working on refining our survey and interview questions to get clearer insights from our target audience. By focusing on open-ended questions, we hope to understand their daily challenges and what they truly need. This will help us create better solutions and ensure we address the right issues for our users. We’re aiming to collect meaningful responses that will guide us in the next steps of the project.

Week 6:

This week, we worked on completing our presentation slides and making sure the flow was smooth. We focused on organizing the content clearly and ensuring the slides looked good. We also practiced how we would present and thought about possible questions we might get from the audience. This will help us deliver a clear and engaging presentation.

Week 7:

This week, we made sure that each design was closely linked to the insights and problem statements we developed earlier. Since this is just the start of the ideation process, we left the designs open for improvements in the coming weeks. We also finished our presentation slides, ensuring that they clearly showed our work and were ready for the next presentation.

Week 8:

Independent Week

Week 9:

No Physical Class

Week 10:

This week, we made sure that our customer journey map matches the "How Might We?" statement. We also created clear steps for post-purchase support, like onboarding emails and feedback channels, to help users after they buy the product. During the website onboarding, we focused on giving users a great shopping experience and used social media to keep them motivated. For paid advertisements, we planned the best timing, platform, and content to make sure our ads are effective.

Week 11:

This week, we focused on summarizing the content for each step in the customer journey to make sure everything aligns and stays consistent. We also finished the Gantt chart to show the project timeline, tasks, and deadlines. We assigned tasks to each team member based on their skills and workload, so the work process would be balanced and efficient.

Week 12:

This week, we finalized the website design layout to ensure it fits with both the user experience goals and the brand identity. We also completed the X-board photoshoot, focusing on getting clear and high-quality images that highlight the product's features and benefits.

Week 13:

This week, we made sure that all designs matched the "How Might We" statement and were consistent across the project. We also removed the tagline page from the website as planned. Additionally, we focused on completing the tasks for the Blogger design, social media posts and stories, editing the promotional video, and finalizing the website design. We also worked on the draft for our presentation slides.

REFLECTIONS

Experience

The process of gathering information and refining our design was both eye-opening and challenging. One of the most important lessons I learned from the feedback was the need to ask clear and focused questions to understand the needs of our target audience, especially the CEOs of large companies. This feedback helped guide the direction of our project. At the beginning, our ideas seemed disconnected, but with continuous feedback and changes, we were able to create better and more cohesive designs for the website, logo, and marketing materials. This process taught me the importance of teamwork, being flexible, and making improvements along the way to meet user needs.

Observation

This project showed how every step is connected and how we need to be flexible based on the new information we get. After gathering data from surveys and interviews, we changed our focus from small businesses to larger companies, especially targeting CEOs. We had to adjust our designs and marketing strategies to fit the new audience. By looking at their behaviors and key touchpoints, we were able to create engaging and relevant content. This helped ensure that our website and marketing materials would meet the specific needs of our target audience.

Findings

Through our research, we discovered that targeting CEOs and large companies for bulk purchases of the X-board was a great opportunity. This shift in focus significantly influenced our marketing plan. We also found that providing different types of content at each stage of the customer journey, like case studies, testimonials, and teasers, was important for helping our audience make decisions. Video content was essential for keeping our audience engaged, but we also realized the value of mixing it with other formats like blog posts and infographics. In the end, this project showed me how important it is to adapt to new insights, use data to guide decisions, and work together to create a design that fits the market.
