TASK 3(B) - E-BOOK BRAND GUIDELINE
From the start, I knew the layout had to reflect the playful and warm essence of Pawfect Spot Cafe. The cafe’s brand is centered around inclusivity, joy, and connection, so the e-book had to feel inviting and easy to navigate. My goal was to balance whitespace, vibrant visuals, and structured typography to create a visually harmonious document.
-
Table of Contents:
One of the first points Ms. Lilian highlighted was the absence of a table of contents. This was an oversight on my part, as I had underestimated how crucial it is for readers to have a clear roadmap of the content. A table of contents not only improves navigation but also makes the e-book appear more structured and professional. -
Title Design:
My original title design was too playful and large, which, according to Ms. Lilian, distracted viewers from the text. She advised that the title be more subtle and less dominant, ensuring it complemented rather than overshadowed the content. -
Visual References:
Ms. Lilian suggested incorporating more photos throughout the e-book. She explained that modern viewers are often drawn to visuals over large blocks of text, and adding engaging imagery could significantly enhance the reader’s experience. -
Chapter Descriptions:
For Chapter 2, Ms. Lilian recommended adding a short description to provide readers with better context and a clearer understanding of the section’s purpose. -
Interactive Buttons:
Lastly, she encouraged me to apply interactive buttons on every page for better navigation, making the e-book more user-friendly. While optional for the landing page, this feature would enhance the overall functionality of the document.
To ensure readability and consistency, I utilized a grid system throughout the e-book.
- Headings: Used a bold, playful typeface to draw attention, reflecting the energetic and lively nature of the brand.
- Body Text: A clean sans-serif font was selected for easy readability, with adequate line spacing to avoid clutter.
The cover sets the tone for the entire e-book. I placed the Pawfect Spot logo prominently, accompanied by the tagline, “Perfectly Pawfect, The Spot for All.” A soft gradient of earthy browns and pinks in the background added warmth, hinting at the cafe’s cozy atmosphere. I chose rounded fonts for headings to evoke a friendly and approachable vibe.

REFLECTION
This process taught me the importance of feedback and how it can transform a project. Initially, I was focused on creativity, but Mr. Hijjaz and Ms. Lilian’s insights reminded me to prioritize functionality and reader preferences. Balancing playful designs with clarity ensured that the e-book not only looked good but also communicated effectively.
I also learned the significance of visuals in modern design. Adding photos and interactive elements made the e-book more engaging and aligned with audience expectations. The iterative process of refining the layout, typography, and visuals reinforced the value of attention to detail in creating a cohesive brand identity.
Crafting the "Pawfect Spot Cafe" E-Book Brand Guideline was a rewarding journey of growth and discovery. The final design, enriched by Mr. Hijjaz and Ms. Lilian’s feedback, successfully captures the brand’s playful, welcoming essence while remaining functional and reader-friendly. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of collaboration and the importance of being open to improvement, both essential for evolving as a designer.
