REFLECTIONS
Looking back at this publishing design project, I realize how much I’ve learned and grown throughout the entire process. Each task brought its own challenges and lessons, and I’m proud of how I overcame them step by step.
Task 1: Exercises
The exercises at the beginning were like warm-ups that prepared me for the bigger tasks. They helped me explore ideas, practice different techniques, and get familiar with the process of designing a book. Although it seemed simple at first, I found that every detail mattered.
Task 2: Content Generation
This was the heart of the project and the part I enjoyed most. Writing More Than a Number was both exciting and emotional. Revisiting personal experiences and turning them into a story that others could relate to wasn’t easy. But it gave me a sense of purpose. I wanted readers to feel inspired and comforted by my journey.
At the same time, creating the illustrations brought the story to life. I worked hard to make sure the visuals matched the tone and message of each chapter. It was challenging to strike the right balance, but seeing the final result made it all worth it.
Task 3(A): Book Printed
This task tested my patience and problem-solving skills. Printing the book didn’t go as planned at first, and I felt disappointed when the first shop didn’t deliver what I wanted. However, the setback taught me the importance of clear communication and working with the right people.
The second printing shop was a much better experience. The aunty who helped me not only guided me through the process but also taught me valuable tips about printing. In the end, I was thrilled with the final printed book. Holding it in my hands was such a rewarding moment.
Task 3(B): E-Book Brand Guideline
Creating the e-book brand guideline felt like a natural extension of the printed book. It was fascinating to translate the design principles into a digital format. I focused on consistency, making sure the e-book aligned with the visual identity of the printed book. This task taught me the importance of adapting designs for different formats while maintaining the core message and aesthetics.
This project was more than just completing tasks—it was a journey of self-discovery and skill development. From the exercises to the content generation, from printing struggles to creating the brand guideline, every step taught me something new.
I’ve learned to pay attention to details, communicate clearly, and adapt to challenges. Most importantly, I’ve realized how powerful design can be in telling a story and connecting with an audience.
As I reflect on this journey, I feel grateful for the obstacles and the lessons they brought. This project wasn’t perfect, but it was meaningful. It pushed me to grow, not just as a designer but as a person.
