Task 2: Key Artwork and Collateral

LECTURES

All lectures are completed in Task 1.

INSTRUCTIONS

Task 2A: Key Artwork

As for this task, Mr. Vinod asked us to design our own names into a brand logo to bring out our own characteristics.

1. Sketches

Fig 1.0 Sketches 20/9/2023

At the beginning, I used TIFF as my logo, so I drafted all about TIFF. It turned out that the idea didn’t go very well, and I suddenly ran out of inspiration. After all, I changed my logo to my last name XUAN.

As a result, I typed the draft several times, but I still had no inspiration and couldn’t get the feeling I wanted. So I used illustration to trace it step by step.

I started it with XUAN, and the result was unexpectedly good.

2. Digitalisation

Fig 1.2 Digitalisation 20/9/2023

This was my first attempt and I thought it was a bit too bland. The UAN at the back was unbalanced because the X was too big and the UAN was too small. There is nothing to support it and I felt it was unbalanced.

In order to give them balance, I changed all the letters at the end to uppercase and lowercase, but it didn't seem to be useful.

So I slowly improved and lengthened the line of N to make it more balanced. Unexpectedly, it works. After correcting it so many times, I kept the last design as my logo.

This is my logo.

In week 5, the teacher asked us to put our logo design on the clothes, so we had to find a model wearing a plain t-shirt and then we printed our logo on it.

I used background remover to remove the background of the model. After all, I place it into Illustration. and started edit it.

In fact, I made two models put on the clothes and have the logo designed on them. I liked both of them, but in the end I chose the first one.

Task 2B: Collateral

For Task 2B, we were told to animate the main artwork, setting up an Instagram account, and designing collateral branding that centres around the key artwork. vThe final work must be the outcome of extensive research and effectively communicate the main point and vibe formed by the main artwork, both aesthetically and textually.

I was thinking using the lines as my logo signature to design it as the layout in instagram page. I used quite some time to think what product can I use for my logo and I ended up making a clothing brand.

FEEDBACK

Week 4 Absent Week 5 General feedback: The wordmark on the top right must be clearly seen. Week 6 General Feedbacck: The wordmark proportion cannot be changed and the collateral colour must be same as the colour pallete that we used for the wordmark design. Create an instagram account and upload it with the graphic design we made and the product we have chosen.
Specific Feedback: Can use the line as my signature. Add a slogan into it. Week 7 Medical leave

Week 8 Independent Learning Week

REFLECTIONS

Experience:
For this task we need to create a unique word mark using our own name. It's not easy at all, every stroke  plays an important role of it.

Observations:
I observed that we need to put more time in our work. The ideas came differently to it every time.

Findings:
Through this assignment, I learned how important it is to plan ahead and attend classes on regularly in order to prevent missing out on important details.
